Color Basics
Paint color is the backdrop for every interior design project, and there are thousands of options. But before we get overwhelmed, let’s get back to basics and think about those primary colors you learned about years ago.
Our three primary colors are red, yellow, and blue. Then, our three secondary colors are orange, green and violet. And did you know, the three additive primary colors are red, green, and blue? This means that, by additively mixing the colors red, green, and blue in varying amounts, almost all other colors can be produced. And, when the three primaries are added together in equal amounts, white is produced!
Ok, you know the building blocks to construct your perfect color, but now what? ColorSnap is a fun tool created by Sherwin-Williams and will allow you to build a paint palette for any room. Upload a photo and the tool will create a custom color palette with coordinating Sherwin-Williams paint colors. Cool, huh?

Reflect on Your Light Sources
The same color can look drastically different in various spaces. That’s largely due to the amount of light – and what kind of light – that color gets throughout the day. The warm tones of incandescent lights will have a different influence on the color than the natural light of daytime. We recommend getting a swatch of the colors you’re considering, hanging them up in the space and looking at them at all different times of day. Once you’re aware of how different light sources can affect your color choices, you can change your room’s “mood” to match the pace of your day.
