Add Sparkle and Coziness to Your Home this Winter

As the holiday decorations come down and homes return to routine, I can’t help but get a sense of sadness. I love the smell of pine from the fresh cut tree that stands tall in our living room for a month and the twinkle of lights on the bushes outside. But when it all comes down, we still have a cold, dark winter ahead of us. Fortunately, there are ways to make your home cozy and sparkly throughout the dark, chilly winter days that are yet to come.

Keep lights glowing after Christmas with sparkly winter branches

Christmas lights may be expected to come down, but who says you can’t have a little bit of wintry sparkle inside your home until February? Snow is more common in January than in December, so bring the sparkle of snow and ice indoors with some sparkly decorations. I made a simple decoration for a tall cylinder vase that sits in my living room all winter long. It consists of branches spray painted silver and wrapped in white lights. It’s not holiday-related, just sparkly like winter!

What better way to stay warm in your home during the drab days than cozying up in front of a fireplace? Large, luxurious leather sofas are a great way to curl up with your loved one or a good book and get toasty in front of a warm fire. The Xander sofa from Bradington-Young is perfect because it’s big enough to get cozy. Curl up on this sofa under a blanket in front of a fire and you will have found bliss.

Santas around the house should be stashed away, but snowmen should be allowed to play! Pull out snowmen figurines and snowflake decorations and line them along tables throughout the home. There may not be any holidays coming up to decorate for but snowmen can be a unique decoration for the home during this time of year. I tend to save my snowmen until after Christmas because it makes me happy to decorate my home with seasonal decorations.

Snowmen figurines make great winter decorations.

Don’t have any snowmen or snowflakes to dress your home with? Make them yourself! Make snowmen out of Styrofoam balls or white felt and snowflakes out of white paper and glue sparkles to them. Here is a link to instructions for fun, easy snowflake cutouts. Both are great craft ideas to do indoors with children on the weekends when it’s too chilly to play outside!

Your living room may be decorated for winter, but don’t forget your bedroom! It should be cozy and warm too. The best way to stay warm on those blustery winter nights is with a large, cozy bed full of warm comforters. Begin with Hooker Furniture’s Rhapsody tufted sleigh bed. Layer with plenty of blankets, quilts, and down comforters and you will (most likely) have trouble getting out of bed in the morning! Once you’re out of bed your feet may be chilly, so lay a lamb’s wool rug on the floor just below your bed.

The holidays may be over, but that doesn’t mean your home can’t sparkle and stay cozy throughout the rest of winter. So, take those Christmas decorations down and make your home comfy, glittery, and warm!
