Choosing Color

Not sure what color to choose? Consider all the elements of color in the room, including the furniture and accessories such as pillows, throws, rugs, or paintings.
Colors can influence how large or small your space feels. Warm colors (yellow, orange, red) advance or look like they are moving towards you. While cool colors (blue, violet, green) tend to appear to recede.

Cool colors such as blue are considered passive and calming. They tend to regress and hide out in the background. Cool colors are quiet and soulful and can help calm and restore the emotions and elicit feelings of peace and tranquility. If you want your room to be relaxing, try using various hues of blue, violet or green in the fabrics for your drapery and soft furnishings. be careful, darker shades of cool colors can be depressing if they are blatantly overused.

On the other hand, warm colors such as red, orange and yellow evoke images associated with heat, like sunshine and fire. They tend to look like they are advancing or stepping toward you. Warm colors are active, upbeat, and exciting and make us feel warm in a psychological sense. Adding these powerful and stimulating colors to draperies and other window treatments will liven up your space. But be warned, these colors can dominate your space if not controlled. A little goes a long way.

In addition to color, consider the texture of your fabric. Rough textured fabric such as some linens appear to be more casual, while shiny fabric more formal. Your drapery colors and texture should also be compatible with the style of the room.
